Painting Techiman Gold: Earthworks Engineering Sponsoring Joy at Apoɔ 2026

A Journey to the Heart of Bono East

On 24th March, 2026, the team from Earthworks Engineering and Logistics traveled to Techiman, the capital of the Bono East region, not for a project, but for a celebration of the human spirit. We were honored to join the good people of Techiman for the annual Apoɔ Festival, a historic event that has united this community for over 130 years.

The word “Apoɔ” comes from the root po, meaning “to reject” or “cast out.” Traditionally, the festival is a time of ritual cleansing where the community rids itself of social evils and settles disputes to foster unity. It is a unique “democratic” celebration where citizens are encouraged to openly express their views and even use poetic “insults” to hold their leaders accountable.

The Magic of “Yellow Day”

One of the most anticipated highlights of the festival is Yellow Day, celebrated as a massive street float. It was a day defined by:

  • A Sea of Gold: The streets of Techiman were transformed as thousands of citizens paraded in vibrant yellow t-shirts, symbolizing the gold, wealth, and prosperity of our land.

  • Celebration in Motion: The day was a whirlwind of energy featuring traditional drumming, street arts, horse riding, and modern dance.

  • Joy and Laughter: As a company, we witnessed firsthand the “Granny Vibe” where everyone from the youngest children to the most respected elders danced together in a shared expression of joy.

Why We Sponsored: CSR with a Purpose

At Earthworks Engineering and Logistics, our vision includes Connecting Communities Powering Development. We believe that true engineering isn’t just about roads and structures; it’s about supporting the social fabric of the regions where we operate.

  • Bringing Joy: We chose to sponsor Yellow Day specifically to contribute to this moment of pure, unadulterated happiness.
  • Supporting Development: Beyond the fun, the festival serves as a platform for planning community projects and driving local economic growth.

Our visit to Techiman reminded us of the resilience and rich cultural identity of the Bono people. We left the festival inspired by the unity we saw on the streets and proud to have played a small part in making this year’s “Yellow Day” a resounding success.
